Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)

Happy Friday!

Today's Song of the Day is from Pet Shop Boys. I had the honor of interviewing them back on 92KISS FM in Chicago. If you were lucky to hear that interview, you heard me introduce them as Nick Tennant and Chris Lowe, even though I knew it was Neal. I still get hot flashes thinking about it. I had prepared for this interview the night before as I am a huge fan. I was so over-prepared that when I typed out my one sheet, I typed Nick and read it verbatim on the air. Neal was gracious as he corrected me, but I still felt like a total ASS.

"Opportunities," released in 1985 and re-released in 1986, is from the album "Please." The song is tongue-in-cheek about being rich. After the first version failed to chart, the Pet Shop Boys re-released it in 1986 with a more Pop-friendly sound, and this version climbed all the way to #10 on the Hot 100.

Here is to Friday, and I hope for many new "Opportunities" today! If you love the Pet Shop Boys, check out The Variety Station. We play more than just "West End Girls."
